Ladies speak up.

Two more Oral History videos are now on our blogsite.

Joann Halsall talks about the Wootten family and her video can be seen on You Tube at  https://youtu.be/cWXsiIAbMyk     She spoke at our November meeting
last year and was very well received.

It was some time ago that Pat Coates spoke to a very small audience at her home in Berwick House. The long delay in getting this video posted is regretted but we were waiting to receive some additional material. Her video is at  https://youtu.be/4TGJsXHuL3Q

As usual the links to these videos and all oral history videos are on the Oral History page.

Catching up.

It has been a long haul but I have finally completed the videos from last January and February and last November's is just an inch away. Both were wonderfully entertaining and educational and now with the addition of many images they are well worth watching even if you were at the original talk.

As usual the links to both are on the Oral History page.

The direct link to Jack Burdge's talk about Burdge Farms is at
https://youtu.be/CzLlH1W1OIM

The direct link to Cairine Greens talk about her father Arthur Ash is at  https://youtu.be/J2XPxS1cS9U

Number Please.

Our September meeting speakers, Morgan Ostler, sister Grace Moreau and Lorraine McCloy are to be congratulated for putting together an interesting and informative talk about their experiences working at the Colquitz Telephone Exchange on Wilkinson Road in the 1940's and 1950's.
The video can be accessed directly via the link below or from our oral history page.

Revision complete.

Hello all,

I  believe that I have now finished what turned out to be a rather time consuming update and revision of the ROHA blog. The largest change is the breakdown of information into more categories/pages that should make it easier for anyone to find what they are looking for. This coincided with loading all the information on to our new laptop so that we have the blog backed up and portable. We can now take our show “on the road”.

There are now 20 subject pages of information where you can find approximately:- 37 Oral History and other videos,
some 180 class photos, about 170 photos of people, places and things about and around Royal Oak and numerous other items including School Annuals, graduation material, maps, news articles, publications, books, links, memories in writing and regrettably obituaries.

I hope you will take a look in the near future and add to the over 23,000 views the blog has had already. Please let me know if you find errors, have information to add and most important to me the identities of the students who are unnamed in class photos.

Congratulations to all the people who have contributed their time and material to create this valuable and interesting archive and to Enid Bull for bringing us together and keeping us together.

Time well spent I think.

Daryl.

Shirley Hunt's June talk...

....was informative and fun and very much enjoyed by the audience.
It is now available to watch on YouTube at https://youtu.be/CYTGnRibaik
or by using the link on the Oral History page.

We now have more than 160 class photos from the 1800's to the 1960's that I am just now finishing updating. Although most are from the original Royal Oak School and its replacement the 1952 Royal Oak School there are also examples from other schools that students from Royal Oak travelled to due to crowding at the home school or attended during other school years. These other schools include Mt. Newton High School, Prospect Lake School, Strawberry Vale School, Mt. View High School, MacTavish Road School, Keating School, Tillicum School, North Saanich School and Cordova Bay School. Did you know that some Royal Oak students attended as many as four different schools between grade 1 and 12 to accommodate the changing population?

Many of the students in the photos have been named but many have not so we could use your help with identification.

Also recently added to the blog is the 1964 Annual from Royal Oak courtesy of Shirley Hunt.
