More class photos.

6 more class photos have been added to the (1952) Royal Oak School photo page  and 1 more to the "Old" Royal Oak School photo page. These photos came from Terence Scott.

Many names are missing from these old photos so this gives you something to do on those dark winter days when you need to stay indoors.

Please quote the photo number from the top left corner, row and row number.

Thank you.

Next meeting Nov. 14, 2013.

Just Added

I have just added to your Blog some things that might interest you.
On the "Photos-people, places and things" page you can find a map of the Saanich Peninsula and two advertisements for the Toby Jug at Hamsterly Park, circa 1940? These came from Paul Taylor. The other item is an aerial view of Panama Flats which was recently printed by Saanich.

Perhaps the Toby Jug photos in particular will encourage you to comment with a memory of yours about this popular Elk Lake attraction.

August 16, 2013.

Today I uploaded to Youtube Lewis Burden’s oral history that was recorded at our July meeting. Very interesting and with some good laughs. Like all the oral histories most of the material has never been heard before outside of the family.
If you are at all like me and others I have spoken with, listening to these oral histories brings up questions you would like to ask the speaker and stories of your own relating to specific parts of the talk.  I invite you to ask the questions and tell your stories by using the comments section of this Blog. It should add significant interest to many in our group.
You may see this video by using the link below or by visiting the oral history page on this blog.
We hope that you will forward this email or the links to anyone you know that you think might be interested in watching the oral histories and/or learning more about our group.

July 6 update.

Phyllis (Rogers) Fatt’s  much appreciated June talk about the Rogers family is now on Youtube for all to see. Phyllis had a lot of very interesting old photos and they are now in there proper place in the video. As always, even if you were at the meeting a second look is worthwhile. And please don’t forget to forward the link to anyone you think might be interested. As usual the link is on the Oral History page.

As a result of receiving our grant money from Saanich Municipality we were able to purchase new audio/video equipment including 2 cameras, two tripods and two lights with stands. This will help make much better quality video after we learn how to get the most out of it. I think you will see some of that improvement in this latest video.

We are still looking for someone to take over the care of our backup computer which is purely for storing duplicate copies of all our files, photos, videos etc. An internet connection is not required nor does it involve any more than about 15 minutes a month updating time. Any volunteers?

May 10,2013 New on our blog..

Last night I uploaded to Youtube our most recent oral history video. This talk was by Norma Sealey and was most entertaining. Even if you were there for the live event I think if you watch it again you will hear some things you missed. I know I did.
Also new on the blog is the 1958-1959 Graduation photo for Royal Oak. They all look so   so    so   young.
Now that we are meeting at our new “dark” hall we need help with some lighting for the videos. If you know anything about this or know someone who does please let us know.
And, I have resurrected my old computer as a backup for all the information we have collected but I do not have a monitor for it. If anyone cares to donate their old one it would be appreciated. It does not have to be large but just for space a flat screen is necessary.
