Glad to hear they are appreciated. I'm wondering if you went to school at Royal Oak or lived in the area. Perhaps you can help us identify some of the students in the class photos?
I found your site while searching for something else. I lived in Royal Oak, on Mann Avenue, from 1969 until around 1975. My parents were there until 2006 or 7. I'm interested in the Mahon orchard on what's now Mann Avenue but was once (I believe) Colquitz Street. I'll look at the rest of your site but if you have information you can share, please let me know? Thanks very much.
With respect to the photo of the ROHS crest and the question of how long it was in use, my 1964 year book has that crest on the front cover but without the colour elements. The year book has "Royalist" at the top.
However, the 1963 year book did not use that crest or name. Instead, it had a crown at the top with "Royal Oak '63"(on two lines), below which are three oak leaves with a ribbon crossing the stems. Was 1963 the first time a year book was produced at the school?
I started grade 1 at Royal Oak Elementary school in April 1955. We were the last class of grade 7s to go to Junior High in 1960-61. In 1961-62 the grade 7s had to remain in elementary school, a decision that never made any sense to me. Was it a Province wide change or was it just for School District 63?
Wonderful old photos!! Love them!
